What is the Child Dental Benefits Scheme (CDBS)?

The Child Dental Benefits Scheme is a government-funded program aimed at providing financial assistance for basic dental services to eligible children aged 2 to 17. Launched by the Australian government, this initiative acknowledges the significance of early dental care in preventing oral health issues and fostering good dental habits from an early age.

Key Features of CDBS:

To avail of the benefits under the CDBS, children must be eligible for Medicare and their families must receive certain government benefits, such as Family Tax Benefit Part A, Parenting Payment, or the Youth Allowance.

2. **Age Group:**
The CDBS covers children aged 2 to 17, ensuring that a wide range of age groups benefit from preventive and essential dental care.

3. **Covered Services:**
Under the CDBS, eligible children can access a variety of dental services, including check-ups, cleanings, X-rays, fissure sealants, fillings, extractions, and root canal treatments.

Nurturing Bright Smiles: The Importance of Dental Hygiene in Kids Below 12 Years

At Salisbury House Medical and Dental Centre, we understand the significance of instilling good oral hygiene habits from a young age. Childhood is a crucial period for dental development, and fostering proper dental care practices can pave the way for a lifetime of healthy smiles. In this article, we’ll delve into the importance of dental hygiene in children below 12 years old and explore how establishing good habits early on can contribute to overall well-being.

1. **Early Prevention for Lifelong Health:**

Dental hygiene plays a pivotal role in preventing common oral health issues such as cavities, gum disease, and tooth decay. By instilling proper brushing and flossing habits in children under 12, parents can set the foundation for a lifetime of strong, healthy teeth.

2. **Building Strong Teeth:**

The early years are crucial for dental development, with primary teeth acting as placeholders for permanent teeth. Teaching children the importance of regular brushing helps maintain these primary teeth, ensuring they function properly and guide the permanent teeth into their correct positions.

3. **Establishing Healthy Habits:**

Habits formed in childhood often carry into adulthood. By making dental hygiene a part of a child’s daily routine, parents contribute to the development of lifelong habits that promote good oral health. This includes not only regular brushing but also the importance of a balanced diet and regular dental check-ups.

4. **Preventing Dental Anxiety:**

Introducing children to regular dental check-ups and hygiene practices at an early age can help prevent dental anxiety. Familiarizing them with the dental environment and emphasizing the positive aspects of oral care can create a positive association with dental visits.

5. **Boosting Confidence:**

A healthy and bright smile can significantly impact a child’s self-esteem. Teaching them the importance of maintaining their oral health not only benefits their physical well-being but also contributes to their confidence and social interactions.

6. **Educational Tools for Parents:**

At Salisbury House Medical and Dental Centre, we believe in empowering parents with the knowledge and tools to guide their children towards optimal oral health.
